Cheers! I have a large grid mobile asteroid drilling rig that uses an array of pistons and five drills on a rotor that can dig out 5,000 cubic meters of rock. I imagine that it could be refitted with wheels to crawl along the ground and dig a whole mess of 50m deep holes.

How do you do a drilling rig?

There are a whole bunch of ways to do drilling rigs, (large or small grid) and some wouldn't even need hinges or rotors. The simplest (for mining rock, ice, or possibly boulders) is to have a rover with a piston or two facing downward with one or more drills on the end. You group the pistons and add the group to your hotbar with reverse.

How do Rover drills work?

Simple. A design I built (in large grid) recently has a large rover with two drill arms that swing out and down on hinges and then you use pistons to lower the drills. (With the drills on of course.) The 4 hinges are all added together in one group, so they only have 2 hotbar actions: Reverse and Hinge Lock.
