How do you drill a hole in a planetary ores?

Planning: Decide where you want to drill. My favorite place to do this is on an ice lake over a Cobalt deposit, meaning the drill can extract millions of Ice, Iron, Nickel, Cobalt, Gravel and Silicon Ingots. The only planetary ores that need to be mined separately are thus Magnesium, Silver and Gold. Decide how wide you want the hole to be.
